In an age of radical transformations, new bridges are needed between research and practice.

Humanity is confronted with the prospect of unprecedented challenges in the coming decades, from the consequences of global warming to the emergence of a new geopolitical order. While scientific research has made considerable progress in understanding and characterising some of the key phenomena, determining their actual implications for current decisions at policy and programmatic level remains a work in progress.
Policy and project planning can no longer rely on business-as-usual representations of the future; uncertainties regarding environmental, socioeconomic, governance and security conditions, to name but a few, change the prospects of virtually every long-term project, policy or development plan. In this context, emerging solutions have to be identified and appraised with appropriate consideration of their potential to address long-term challenges.
At Future Horizons, we strive to inform public and private decision-makers about the long-term context and consequences of their choices on the basis of state-of-the-art reviews of relevant research.
