Risk Assessment and Management for the World Bank's SWEDD Project in The Gambia
The World Bank has been financing a programme to promote women and girls’ health and empowerment in countries of West Africa and the Sahel since 2015. The Sub-Saharan Africa Women’s Empowerment and Demographic Dividend (SWEDD) programme is now in its third phase, with projects in Burkina Faso, Chad, Togo, The Gambia, Republic of Congo and Senegal. In The Gambia, the project is being implemented from 2023 onwards by an array of government agencies under the leadership of the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Welfare.

In 2023, Reza led an international team of consultants that contributed to establishing the World Bank’s Environmental and Social Framework, which determines the conditions, procedures and responsibilities for assessing and managing the project’s social and environmental risks and impacts.
The work entailed extensive data collection and interactions with stakeholders across the country, which led to the development of an Environmental and Social Management Framework, a Stakeholder Engagement Plan and Labour Management Procedures for the project.
